North Bengal is on the eastern fringe of India and offers wonderful locales for tours as well as exotic destinations for the ‘adventurous mind’. An overnight journey from the state capital of KOLKATA or an exhilarating flight of 50 mins arrives at the very base of the Great Eastern Himalayas from where one can see Mt Kangchendzonda(8586 Mtrs), the third highest peak of the world. It is also the only ‘eight thousander’ in the world which can be seen from the plains. With its diversified flora and fauna along with ecstatic views and wonderfully hospitable people, North Bengal stands out as very unique gateway to the Greater Himalayas.
This package has been designed specifically for tourists who want to see these locations along with a special adventure element in the tour over a short duration. This tour will take you to the ‘queen of hills’ and then on the trek route to Sandakphu where you will actually cross over the border into Nepal with have mind-blowing views of the mountains and then get you back to the western end of Bengal to a very exotic location in order to feel, understand and enjoy the culture of the people along with experiencing total relaxation.
Dhotre is located in the tanglu forest range in the western part of North Bengal at an altitude of 2700 Mtrs and commands a beautiful view of Mt khanchendzonga. It’s a very small settlement of around 40 houses.
Tumling is a small village in Nepal bordering India and is the first pit stop for trekkers on the way to Sandakphu (3636 Mtrs) and is known for its alpine beauty and the view it commands of Mt Kangchendzonda (8586 Mtrs), the third highest peak of the world. Tumling is 6 kms from Dhodrey and the trail is a well beaten path through forests of Rhododendron on very moderate gradient. Lunch at Tumling is followed by further exploration of the surroundings.
Tonglu is the top most point of this place with an altitude of 3000 Mtrs and a total population of 10. It is around 2 kms from Tunmling but commands majestic views of Mt kanchendzonga and the best sunrise.
Rimbick, situated at an altitude of 2286 Mtrs (7500 Ft.) on the western frontier of West Bengal is the last destination for the trekkers on the Sandakphu trail with Sikkim on one side and enormous wilderness on the other. It is fast coming up as a tourist destination with tourist from all over coming here to just spend some relaxed time with a very low adventure quotient in the tour. Hotel Sherpa is the oldest and the best accommodation available in Rimbick run by the most prestigious Buddhist family of Rimbick. It is the dream place of any trekker, who is looking for a clean environment to rest after an arduous trek. It is an ideal retreat for a tourist looking for a retreat away from the ‘hustle and bustle’ of city life.
Sirikhola is nestled deep in the Singalila National park. Sirikhola is a nature lover’s paradise with green hills all around and a beautiful mountain river called SIRI flowing by the side. One can trek on an absolute well beaten path for 6 kms to reach this place or take a jeep for 4 kms and trek for 2 kms. Enjoy the beauty of nature and come back the same day.
Pick up from New jalpaiguri railway Station / Bagdogra airport and transfer to Dhodrey (2700Mts)(120 Kms) via maneybhanjan by car which is a 120 kms drive through beautiful pine forests and views of the greater Himalayas. We will meet our porters here There will be a briefing in the evening over dinner regarding the trek which will start the next day.
After an early breakfast start a trek of for 6 kms through the forest of rhododendron and meadows to reach Tumling in Nepal. Lunch at Tumling and move around the place to explore more. have dinner and retire in the wooden cottages.
Today after breakfast we can walk to the everest view point and enjoy the magnificient view of the Mt everest Lhotse and Makalu , come back have lunch and go for a 1.5 kms trek to Tonglu to watch the sunset, come back to Tumling and retire.
After breakfast we trek down to Dhodrey (6 kms) and start for Rimbick in the waiting cars. Rimbick is another 40 kms from Dhodrey and will take around 2 hrs to reach. Check in at Hotel Sherpa, have lunch and relax. In the evening move around the local market a bit, come back and have dinner.
After breakfast, we trek for another 6 kms to a mountain settlement called Sirikhola which is by the side of a mountain river and in the middle of Singalila national Park. Have lunch and go down to the river to enjoy the cold water of the river, enjoy the beauty and the serenity of the place come back to Rimbick and call off the trip with a bon fire and great dinner.
Start for Bagdogra airport, a 6 hrs drive via Mirik, have lunch at Mirik and proceed towards Siliguri. Trip ends at NJP/ Bagdogra airport.
